Acai Berry…The Health Savior
Ancient history has shown us that nature has within it’s self the answers to all that ails the human body. The stage has belonged to many throughout the generations. Now comes Acai Berry. The beautiful Acai Berry comes from the very bountiful and life giving Amazon rainforest of Brazil. It is home to species of life, both plant and animal, that can only be found in this part of the world. The Acai Berry is manna.
At first glance, the Acai Berry (pronounced “ ah-sigh-ee”), is pitted, black-purple in color, circular, small in size and resembles that of a grape(except with less pulp). This small grape-sized Acai Berry has been cropped by the indigenous natives of Brazil for centuries. No one knows for sure how long this brilliant Acai Berry has been harvested. This we do know. It has been a staple in the diet of the healthy people of this region. One conclave of inhabitants have been identified as a tribe that eats nothing but the Acai Berry. This superfood, this health savior, this Acai Berry has caused them to be far healthier than you and i. It is not new to the world. It has been around a long time. It is just now having it’s coming out party and is being introduced to the world outside of the Brazilian rainforest for it’s multi-faceted recognized health benefits and uses. Today, countless media outlets, doctors, nutritionists, and scientists herald its numerous nutritional qualities and health benefits.
The Acai Berry is comprised of primarily two parts. The pulp and the seed. In relationship to each other as a whole; the pulp is approximately 20% and the seed 80%. The fruit is tasty and has a flavor that is best described as a delicious, but delicate blend of berries and chocolate (whow!) That’s having your cake and eating it too. The tantalizing Acai Berry populates in branched panicles of 700 to 900 fruits. The Acai palm produces two crops of Acai Berry per year. The pulp, the seed, and the juice are all used. Nothing is wasted. Everything is nutritional in value. Can you say Acai Berry.
Today the Acai Berry has stretch across the oceans. In their homeland, the Acai Berry is primarily harvested as a staple in the daily food diet. It has a new pinnacle across the oceans and in Northern Brazil. Across the ocean, the Wall Street Journal has published an article touting the Acai Berry as replacing wheatgrass as the drink of choice in health bars all over America (Bottoms up). In the north country of Brazil, Acai Berry (or jussara) (which is one of many of the fruits common folk names) is being introduced in a variety of venues.
Frequently blended with juices, a variety of beverages, including smoothies, and sodas. Acai Berry juice and pulp is popularly served in gourds and maybe blended with tapioca, or consumed salty or sweet. While south of the border, somewhere in Southern Brazil this same diet staple, health savior, this Acai Berry juice and pulp is more commonly served cold with granola. There you may here it referred to as Acai na tigela (Acai in the bowl). The southerners say that this particular mixture is “energizing”. All over Brazil however, the Acai is used as juice, an ice cream flavor, and in a flavored liqueur. No one’s palate is overlooked. And everyone’s health is enhanced.
